The difference between Potentiometer and Encoder

1. The rotation angle of the potentiometer and the encoder is very different
There is an essential difference between a potentiometer and an encoder. The most direct way to distinguish is: the potentiometer is the one whose rotation angle is less than one circle, and the encoder is the one that can rotate 360 degrees infinitely.

2. The working principle of potentiometer and encoder is different
1) Potentiometer
The principle is to change the resistance output by rotation, because there is a resistor inside the potentiometer, and the resistor has an angle limit, so the rotation angle is less than 360 degrees.
2) Encoder
The principle is to change the pulse output by rotation, because the inside of the encoder is a contact, and the pulse is changed by turning on and off, so it can rotate 360 degrees infinitely.
